“You owe it to everyone you know (including yourself) to find pockets of tranquility in your busy world.” -George Bernados
When I found this quote on another blog, I remembered how little I seek those pockets of tranquility. I forget to take time to rest and rejuvenate and be. This is not a new struggle in my life. I was practically born seeking something interesting to do and accomplish all the time. Not all of my desire to get things done is bad, but I tend to get very lopsided very quickly.
It’s a problem when I can rarely say “no” to something unless my schedule is already full. I have a hard time saying “no” because I need to, because I want to take a few hours off.
I’m working on this issue, and I think I’m getting a little better. Spring Break this week has helped tremendously.
I just have to constantly remind myself that I am human, after all. Sometimes I think I try to be God–not only do I fail, I wear myself out.
Come, rest awhile, and let us idly stray
In glimmering valleys, cool and far away.
Come from the greedy mart, the troubled street,
And listen to the music, faint and sweet,
That echoes ever to a listening ear,
Unheard by those who will not pause to hear
The wayward chimes of memory’s pensive bells,
Wind-blown o’er misty hills and curtained dells.
One step aside and dewy buds unclose
The sweetness of the violet and the rose;
Song and romance still linger in the green,
Emblossomed ways by you so seldom seen,
And near at hand, would you but see them, lie
All lovely things beloved in days gone by.
You have forgotten what it is to smile
In your too busy life come, rest awhile.
~Lucy Maud Montgomery

I love the picture you choose to highlight your point
I think sometimes we forget how Biblical rest is: from the 10 commandments urging us not to forget the sabbath, to Jesus’ own intentional periods of rest, to the portion in Hebrews speaking to us of the gift/reward that rest is to the Christian, its a smaller theme but a theme none-the-less. :-]
BTW – I love and miss you.
